Oakland Ballet
Founded in 1965 by Oakland native Ronn Guidi, Oakland Ballet Company is committed to inspiring the community around us with productions of the highest professional quality.
Our season opens with the annual production of Graham Lustig’s The Nutcracker, performed at the historic Paramount Theatre with the accompaniment of Michael Morgan and the Oakland East Bay Symphony.
In the spring, OBC hosts its annual gala and presents repertoire that reflects the history of the company and introduces new works to audiences. Many of these productions include collaborations with local choreographers, drawing on the extensive talent and artistic diversity of the Bay Area.
Part of OBC’s legacy continues to be our engagement with the community. Our outreach programs include on-site, educational sessions within Oakland schools and performances at Children’s Fairyland and with Oakland Art Murmur. With the support of the City of Oakland and many other community partners we are able to offer complimentary tickets to thousands of audience members who may not otherwise have the opportunity to experience the joys of dance.
All of these programs grow from OBC’s commitment to ballet beyond the stage. Our Saturday classes and Ballet Boot Camp, a summer intensive program started by Artistic Director Graham Lustig, brings OBC’s dance curriculum to aspiring young ballet students, encouraging the OBC tradition withing future generations.
